Access Statement For Durbeyfield House

Introduction

A guest house within the resort of West Bay, we look to offer all guests an enjoyable stay, providing support to those who require assistance, and aiming to maximise access to our facilities .

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• There are 12 parking spaces for guests and bar customers
• There is a gravel level carpark, floodlit at dusk
• Assistance dogs only in bedrooms.Dogs on leashes in bar area.
• Contact number in porch and exterior bell to summon assistance

Main Entrance & Reception

• There is one main entrance for guests. French doors to bar and dining room may give better access for wheelchairs but main hall is wide enough for some wheel chairs -minimum 72cms.Mobility scooters may be left near entrance.There are raised thresholds. Assistance is offered to negotiate these.
• Music may be turned down on request
• Lighting levels vary.Low level table available for registration
• An additional key to room can be made available
• Two single side hung doors at entrance. exterior unlocked to give access to shelter at all times . interior locked , guests having key.Floor is on one level though uneven at thresholds.Dark coloured carpet contrasts with light skirting and wall colour.Price tarriff displayed in porch.Signage pictorial for emergency exits.
• Reception opening times vary-check upon booking.Off hall a single stairway rises, 12 stairs turning at the top two,and with a single wooden handrail to first floor.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

• Access to upper floors is by stairs.In case of emergency the front door bell connects with the owners accommodation. At times when building is unstaffed a mobile phone number is displayed in the porch.Light levels vary and may be dimmed for atmospheric effect. Emergency lighting illuminates all areas of the escape route / stairways/ halls throughout the night though at a low light level.Corridors are minimum 75cms . Some doorways are 72cms wide.Fire doors with automatic closers are provided on all doorways from the main stairway / escape route.

Public Areas - WC

• There is a separate toilet on the first floor at the top of the stairs. There is an additional toilet within the bathroom on the first floor. There is an outside toilet from the carpark with doorway to allow wheelchair access.There is a bath and basin in the bathroom and a separate shower.

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar

• Bar area has two fixed upholstered bench seats, moveable tables and moveable chairs some with arms and some without. Several stools low level and high are available. The area is carpeted.Menus and prices are displayed on wall boards- staff will assist.Candle lanterns on tables.Table service for all but breakfast cereals and fruit juices which are buffet service.
• The dining room has moveable tables and chairs some of which are with arms. Evening service may be candlelit.Area is carpeted. Entry door 72cms. French doors from patio.
• All areas non smoking

Leisure Facilities

• Nearby the harbour area offers boat trips-fast blast rides around the Bay or to Lyme Regis, fishing and diving trips, float fishing from the piers, and beaches. Kiosks offer a variety of snacks and ices.There are walks East and West along the Coastal paths and inland to Bridport and beyond. Details in the porch display.

Outdoor Facilities

• There is a raised deck area with cast iron framed tables and chairs with wooden slats.There is an on ground patio area with wooden tables and chairs which are moveable.There is a gravelled area with fixed seating , shrubs and flowers in walled borders .Some areas outside are floodlit during the evening.Front porch illuminated all night.Toilet off gravelled area.

Conference & Meeting Rooms, Clubs, These can use the dining room on some evenings by arrangement

Bedrooms

• Bedrooms are restricted in area,though there is walking access to both sides of double beds.All bedrooms have natural light and at least one opening window.A feather and a fibre pillow, a hand towel and bath towel are provided per person.All rooms have basin with hot and cold water. There are televisions in rooms, clock radios and a hairdryer.There are tea and coffee making facilities in each room- an electric kettle, mugs/glasses per person and sachets of tea coffee sugar and UHT milk.There is drawer storage and hanging space or wardrobe.There are bedside lights.Flooring is carpet.There is a central light.All single beds are minimum 3 ft and doubles 4ft 6inches.There is a single room a twin and a double on the first floor with shared bathing facilities and on family shower ensuite room that may be let as double or twin.
• A flight of twelve stairs leads to the second floor which has one single , on twin and one double that share the first floor bathing facilities and two shower ensuite double bedrooms.A glazed fire door protects the escape route. A fire door leads to a narrow flight of twelve stairs to third floor which has a family room with its own bathroom- this may be let as double or twin.
• All bedrooms are connected to fire alarm system.

Additional Information

• The guest house is 50 metres from sandy East Beach, the harbour and promenade in West Bay.All areas in West Bay are level ,mostly with wheelchair access to pavements , piers promenades. Steep cliffs rise either side of the resort.
